Location

The breathtaking, unique beaches of Port Dickson adorn the calm sea of the Straits of Malacca along the coastlines of Negeri Sembilan. Port Dickson is situated 30km away from Seremban, about 60km from KLIA and 55km from Putrajaya, where the new national administration complex is located and Cyberjaya, where the national Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) is situated. It is about 70km away from the Kuala Lumpur city centre. One may reach Port Dickson through a few entry points. The best route to be taken for those travelling from the North Peninsular or South Peninsular is by using the North-South highway (PLUS). Exit at the Port Dickson interchange between Seremban and Senawang interchanges and travel along federal roads lined with lush greeneries that will take you all the way to Port Dickson.

Background

The Port Dickson Municipal Council (MPPD) was officiated on 2 nd February 2002. It occupies an area of 140.32 sq. km. (54.18 sq. mile). The area is divided into two; the operational area which occupies 35.87 sq. km and an area of MPPD's auspices and control, which takes up 104.45 sq. km. The Port Dickson town centre covers an area of 395.5 acres or 160.1 hectares. The beach stretch of Port Dickson pictures a modern holiday beach destination whilst the rural part of Port Dickson boasts a combination of agricultural, commerce and industrial activities .

The People

The Port Dickson district has a population of approximately 110,400 people; comprising of 58, 500 Malays, 28, 200 Chinese, 17, 500 Indians and 7,200 of people of other races in the year 2000 compared to 92, 171 people in 1990. Approximately 94, 725 people are under the auspices of the Port Dickson Municipal Council in the year 2000 compared to 82, 620 people in 1990. In 2010, the number of people in RTPD area is estimated to increase with an average of 0.6%, totalling up to 188,000 people. The growth and development of the tourism sector has increased job opportunities, thus contributing towards the increment of the population. In addition to tourism, the dynamic industrial activities in the area of Lukut also contribute toward the increment of population under the auspices of the Port Dickson Municipal Council.
